چکیده
Peroneal intraneural ganglion cyst which manifests itself with the complaint about palpable swelling and pain around the knee laterally adjacent to fibula neck, that peroneal nerve passes through, is a pathology that can lead to neurological symptoms. For the diagnosis of peroneal intraneural ganglion cyst, which is a rare reason for drop foot, physical examination, electromyography and radiographic imaging methods are used. In this case report, we aim to present peroneal nerve located intraneural ganglion cyst, which is a rare reason for lower extremity paralysis, of a 11 year old male patient who applied our clinic with the picture of painful swelling on outer-side of his knee and drop foot. We believe that surgical intervention should be performed in the shortest possible time with early and true diagnosis in order to regain of neurological functions completely in case of peroneal intraneural ganglion cyst. *Corresponding author: Reşit Sevimli, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Turgut Özal Medicine Faculty, İnönü University, Turkey, Tel: +904223773000; E-mail: [email protected] Citation: Sevimli R, Karakaplan M, Korkmaz MF, Salih AH (2016) Drop Foot Developed Secondary to Peroneal Nerve Located Intraneural Ganglion Caused by Proximal Tibiofibular Joint: Case Report. Common Peroneal Nerve Palsy Secondary to a Proximal Tibiofibular Joint “Ganglion Cyst”—A Case Report and Review of Literature
Although ganglion cysts occur frequently, their presence in the lower extremities is rare and they seldom cause peripheral nerve compression. There are enumerable case reports of intraneural ganglion involvement with the common peroneal nerve and its branches, the sural nerve, and the posterior tibial nerve but extraneural ganglion sciatic and common peroneal nerve palsy cases are quite rare. O...
متن کاملDeep Peroneal Nerve Palsy Caused by an Extraneural Ganglion Cyst: A Rare Case
Lower extremities peripheral neuropathies caused by ganglion cysts are rare. The most frequent location of occurrence is the common peroneal nerve and its branches, at the level of the fibular neck. We report the case of a 57-year-old patient admitted with foot drop, due to an extraneural ganglion of the upper tibiofibular syndesmosis, compressing the deep branch of the peroneal nerve. Although...
متن کاملGanglion Cyst at the Proximal Tibiofibular Joint in a Patient with Painless Foot Drop.
Entrapment neuropathies of the fibular nerve and its branches are often underdiagnosed due to the lack of reliable diagnosis using clinical examination and electrophysiologic evaluation. Most fibular nerve compressions may be classified into 2 broad categories: (a) mechanical causes, which occur at fibrous or fibro-osseous tunnels, and (b) dynamic causes related to nerve injury during specific ...

UNLABELLED A deep peroneal intraneural cyst of the first web space of the foot is presented. Analysis of the magnetic resonance image scans revealed not only a connection with the medial aspect of the second metatarsophalangeal joint, but also the presence of an interconnected cyst within the lateral digital branch of the hallux. These characteristic magnetic resonance image findings are consis...
متن کاملA posttraumatic, joint-connected sural intraneural ganglion cyst-with a new mechanism of intraneural recurrence: a case report.
UNLABELLED Intraneural ganglion cysts are rare in occurrence and most commonly involve the peroneal nerve at the fibular neck. We present a case of a traumatically induced intraneural ganglion cyst of the sural nerve that developed after a nondisplaced posterior malleolus ankle fracture. The intraneural ganglion cyst was connected to the subtalar joint by its articular branch and ascended sever...
